ThunderNET Newsdesk

This section is dedicated to bringing you the latest news from the Thunder world. I aim to get any release dates, news of tours and so forth on here as soon as it becomes available and I know about it. One thing I will ask is that if anyone hears of anything that I haven't posted, e-mail me at [email protected] and let me know. Any news sent in by anyone will of course be credited to them. Cheers - enjoy the news.

Anything that is speculation or rumour will be posted in this blue font, to distinguish it from the news from official sources.

27/8/98 - No new single until end of September

The new sigle from the lads - 'Just Another Suicide' (The one sung with the megaphone during the last tour!) is now slated for release at the end of september, not on 31st August as reported in many sources. Thanks to the official site for the news. Ah well looks like it'll be a case of 'Just Another Month' (pooer I know...) - but from what I've heard, it'll be worth the wait anyway :-)

19/6/98 - Official Site finally declared

The 'Official' Thunder website has finally been decided. Rather than create a totally new website, Danny and Thunder Channel! picked the best from the large array of long-established 'unofficial' sites. The site they chose was none other than that of Ikuko (KEN) Yamamoto. All congrats to Ken, and all the best for the future. If you haven't yet visited her site (and why not!), then pay her a visit at http://www.power.co.jp/tm/yamamoto/thunder/index-e.html. Having met Ken myself, I think she'll do a great job, especially with the support of all the fans on the web :-)

19/6/98 - News of new album and Christmas shows

News about the new album has just started to come through. The latest issue of the Thunder Channel! newsletter (Number 8) has reported that after three Christmas shows (details below), the lads will be returning to the studio to finish the new album. At the momenet it's tentitively titled 'Giving the Game Away', and going by what I've heard on the tour (new songs 'Giving the Game Away', 'Just Another Suicide' and of course 'Play that Funky Music'), it's gonna be crackin' and no mistake :-)

Also, there are three shows planned for December before the boys go in to the studio. These are as follows :-

5th Dec - London, The Forum
6th Dec - Wolverhampton Civic Centre
7th Dec - Nottingham Rock City

Tickets are available from the venues in a few weeks, and Channelites can get priority tickets from Matron in the usual way. If you're not a channelite(a member of Thunder Channel! if you don't know), see the fan club section for details on joining - it's well worth it.

Thunder's Latest Single - 15/6/98

Thunder's latest single "Play That Funky Music" was released in the UK on 15th June. It's a cover of the well known 70's hit, and has proven to be really popular live. It was during rehersals for the latest tour that it was decided it should be recorded to be released at the end of the tour. It's bloody great, and really finishes off the tour well.
The single was released in three formats in the UK on 'Eagle/B Lucky' records, 2CDs and a cassette. The tracklistings are as follows :-

CD1 : EAGXS030

1. Play That Funky Music
2. Like a Satellite*
3. Once in a Lifetime*

CD2 : EAGXA030

1. Play That Funky Music
2. My Brother Jake*
3. I'm One*
MC : EAGMS030

1. Play That Funky Music
2. Once in a Lifetime*
The tracks marked * are taken from the Trident sessions.

After careful listening, I'd give this a big thumbs up. The new songs on CD2 are great, but the alternative versions of the songs on CD1 are also excellent.
